Cactus Crown

This is an oil painting, not a photograph!  This beautiful, large oil painting is available through Four Corners Gallery at the Tucson Desert Art Museum.  

I've been thinking about this painting for about eighteen months!  I spent a lot of time thinking about the composition and choices, and I had so many ideas about how I wanted to set it up.  As is often the case, what I start out to do and where I arrive at the end are often different. 

Rather than let my initial idea be the only measure of a successful painting, I started chasing down that warm greenish turquoise as a vivid contrast to the reds, pinks, and purples found in the blossoms of this echinopsis cactus.  

The result was a painting that really pops and stands out in a room.
