Thousand Steps is named after a hike in El Paso, Texas that overlooks the city. My wife and I ventured up there one day while the kids were in school. The ocotillo were at the end of their blooming season. Prickly pear were blooming in abundance. But on the way down, in about 30 minutes, all the barrel cacti bloomed. It was pretty magical to be on the mountainside that day. This is now my fourth cacti painting based upon photos taken that day.
